By the second week of September, most Kansas City families know where they'll be on Friday night. Lights come on at high school stadiums from Olathe up to Liberty, and parents in team colors fill the bleachers well before kickoff. UMKC has Division I volleyball going in Midtown this month. The Kansas City Mavericks drop the puck in October.
A football game fills about two hours of the evening, which leaves plenty of Friday on either side of it. Your athlete gets home from school too wound up to sit on the couch. The youngest one gives up on the bleachers before halftime, and when the team plays two hours away you end up at home with a free night and nothing planned. After the final whistle, the teenagers in your back seat want to go somewhere.

What to Do in Kansas City on a Friday Night During Football Season
Between the last bell and kickoff, everybody gets hungry, and you need a place near the stadium that won't wear the kids out before the game starts. The game wraps up around nine. Teens want to keep the night going, and by that hour most family attractions have closed.
Away weeks hand you the whole evening. The places below spread out from Lenexa and Kansas City, Kansas, over to Midtown and Lee's Summit, so you'll find one near your school.
5 Fun Things to Do in Kansas City on Friday Night
1. D-BAT Kansas City in Lenexa
Where: 16150 W 110th St, Lenexa, KS Friday hours: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Plenty of Kansas City families have one kid in shoulder pads on Friday and another halfway through fall ball. D-BAT gives the baseball or softball player a Friday of their own.
Everything here sits indoors with the air conditioning running. The pitching machines throw real baseballs and softballs, and they switch from baseball to either style of softball, so a dad who played in college can share a lane with a nine-year-old fastpitch player. You can't book the machine lanes ahead. They go to whoever walks in first, and the after-school crowd fills them fast, so aim to get there by 4:30.
If somebody at your house has been dropping hints about a new bat, the pro shop carries Rawlings and Easton gear. If you're headed to a game in Olathe or Shawnee, you can fit in half an hour of swings and still have time to eat before kickoff.
2. TM Fieldhouse in Lee's Summit

TM Fieldhouse opened on the southeast side of Lee's Summit in 2025. It's a 52,000-square-foot building. The side they call Courtside has multi-sport courts, and on a lot of nights you'll find them full of pickleball players. Over on the Fieldside turf, baseball and softball teams practice on a regulation infield with 70-foot hitting tunnels. Golfers can book the 19th Hole, a private simulator room where you play nine or 18 holes whatever the weather's doing.
On a football Friday, the café matters most. TM Fit sells healthier food along with pizza from a brick oven, which takes care of dinner when you've got 45 minutes between practice and kickoff. Lee's Summit families can eat here and get to the stadium in plenty of time.

3. The Fairway Club in Lee's Summit
Where: near Missouri 291 and Chipman Road, Lee's Summit, MO Friday hours: book a bay ahead
Logan Dahmer grew up in Lee's Summit and played varsity golf at Lee's Summit West. In late 2025 he opened The Fairway Club, a four-bay indoor golf studio about 20 minutes south of downtown, and he gave the room an old-school clubhouse feel.
Each bay runs on a Foresight Falcon launch monitor with around 2,000 courses loaded. Four or five people fit in one bay. Friends who golf can play a scramble together, and anybody who's never picked up a club can stick to the simulator games.
When your kid's team plays out of town and you've got a free Friday, book an hour here with your spouse or with the couple you sit next to in the bleachers every week. TM Fieldhouse is a few minutes away if you want to pair the two. With only four bays, Friday evenings fill up, so book early in the week.
4. UMKC Kangaroo Athletics in Midtown
Where: Swinney Center for volleyball and Durwood Soccer Stadium for soccer, both on the UMKC campus Friday hours: depends on the game
Kansas City has a Division I program of its own in Midtown, and it's a good place to spend an away-game Friday. The Roos men's soccer team has made the NCAA Tournament two years running. They play eight home games at Durwood Soccer Stadium this fall.
Volleyball plays at Swinney Center. On Friday, September 18, the Roos take on Saint Louis there at 7 p.m. as part of the Battle for Missouri tournament. The Billikens drive across the state for that one, and if your family ever makes the trip east on I-70, GetOut runs a St. Louis membership as well. The gym is small enough that you sit close to the court with the student section making noise around you. If you've got a middle schooler in club volleyball, bring them to watch college players up close for a night.

5. Atlas9 in Kansas City, Kansas
Where: 1100 N 98th St, Kansas City, KS, near Legends Field in Village West Friday hours: 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Teenagers coming out of a football game want somewhere to go. Atlas9 stays open until 11 on Fridays, which makes it one of the few places in the metro that still works after a 7 p.m. kickoff.
The building looks like a 1990s movie theater that something strange happened to. It covers 46,000 square feet over two floors. You come in through a glowing box office, and from there you wander through rooms built around scenes from made-up "forgotten films," with live performers and hidden clues scattered around. A 240-seat auditorium is part of the story too. When the group gets hungry, there's a pizza parlor inside. Adults can get a drink at the 1940s-style speakeasy.
Because the whole place works like a mystery you figure out by walking around, a group of 15-year-olds who'd never agree on a movie will each find something to chase down. Give it at least 90 minutes. Families from Piper, Basehor-Linwood, Bonner Springs, and Mill Valley live close enough to come straight from the stadium.
Ready-Made Friday Night Game Plans
The Johnson County warm-up. Head to D-BAT around 4 p.m. After half an hour in the cages you'll have time to grab dinner in Lenexa before a 7 p.m. kickoff, and the younger kids will have burned off some energy before they have to sit in the stands.
The Lee's Summit pregame. Go to TM Fieldhouse after school for an hour of pickleball or open court time. Eat brick-oven pizza at the TM Fit Café, then drive over to the stadium in time for warmups.
The away-game Friday. Start at Swinney Center for a 7 p.m. Roos volleyball match. When it's over, drive west to Atlas9, where the doors stay open until 11. Teens get a late night out, and everyone's home in time to sleep before Saturday games.
The parents' night. Your team plays out of town, and you finally have a Friday. Book a bay at The Fairway Club for 7 p.m. and bring a few friends from the bleachers.
